SPOT Eye Screenings:

This year we screened 12,000 children in schools, daycare centers, Head Start programs and other settings. 10% were referred to an eye care professional for further evaluation.

How your donation Helps:  It helps with our recurring costs for camera maintenance and repair, printers, paper and ink.  It will also help us save for a new SPOT camera so we may screen even more children.
Highlights of our work:  One mother reported to us that her daughter was looking at trees with her new glasses and remarked "I never knew they had leaves on them."   A teacher wrote to us and told us that her students who received glasses had improved at least two reading levels.  She couldn't believe the difference.
Diabetes:
Why is Diabetes Important? Diabetes is increasing worldwide.  Diabetes is a disease shared by young and old, rich and poor.  It does not discriminate.  Over 422 million people have diabetes.  By 2040, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that over 642 million worldwide will have the disease. Diabetes is deadly and debilitating.  Every 8 seconds, someone in the world dies from the complications of diabetes.
How your donation Helps:  We send low-income Diabetic Children to summer camp every year - something they could never do without the doctors and nurses who staff the camp.  They experience horseback riding, swimming, zip lines, camp fires, crafts and also learn how to manage their diabetes more effectively.  We also provide information and prevention information to local schools to inform parents of the warning signs of diabetes as it often goes undetected.  Additionally, we raise money for the JDRF Walk for a Cure every year in April at Carowinds.
General Fund:
We gladly accept donations to our general fund which assists with various programs the Tega Cay Lions Foundation is involved in - such as our Reading Action Program in two elementary schools, College Scholarships, Annual Senior Citizen Christmas Party and so much more!
